Gas Saving Tips

There are a number of things you can do to help with your fuel economy.  With the price of gas today, it seems may of us are trying to exercise gas saving techniques.  There is a tremendous amount of information available online but below is a summary of easy to do gas saving.

Pass this information along to friends and family. Not only will you save them money on fuel economy, but you will help our earth which is also another great topic of discussion in today's world.

Keep Your Vehicle in Shape

Following these tips can save you up to 15-20%. On a regular basis, have your vehicle tuned up. This can improve your mileage. Clean air filters can protect your motor but also can improve gas mileage by as much as 10%. With the price of today's gas, ths is significant savings. You should also keep your tires properly inflated. Not doing so can decrease fuel economy. And you also should use the grade oil your driver's manual recommends.

Drive More Efficiently

Take notice of the speed limit and just staying inside the speed limit will save you substantial money on gas spending. The faster you drive, the more gasoline your car uses. Driving at 65 miles per hour rather than 55 miles per hour can decrease fuel economy by about 2 miles per gallon. When you start from a stop sign or red light, don't start off so abruptly. A slower approach will help. And on the highway, where applicable, use cruise control.

Green Thinking

Use your air conditioner as little as possible. The use of air conditioning can reduce gas mileage by as much as 2 miler per gallon under certain speeds and operating conditions.

Also, commute where possible and combine errands into less trips. For example, if you are going to the store a few miles away, plan ahead. Do you need to make any other stops over the next few days in that same area. If yes, plan ahead and make one trip. Also, remove any excess weight you may be carrying in your vehicles. Some people have full trunk space of many items that are not needed in the vehicle. This excess weight lessens fuel economy.
